Shooting spring piston guns, particularly the high-power ones, is tricky indeed. Generally, you need to grip the forend very lightly or even just let it rest in your hand. Also, be sure not to grip tightly with the trigger hand. Lastly, if shooting of a bench, don't rest it on a hard surface.
In short, very light gripping front and back and no resting on hard surfaces. Also, pellet rifles can be very picky about which pellets shoot best. I've had the best performance from RWS Meisterkugeln.
With the right pellets and good shooting form, I can shoot a group about the size of a dime at 20 yards with my Gamo 1000 fps .177 scoped rifle. Bad form and lesser pellets will triple the group size.
