A response to this is probably deserving of a separate post. However, my take on the history of prominent industrialists and social elite is that it was any number of diverse beliefs and causes that prompted these folks to believe that alignment with Hitler's Germany was the right thing to do. The common bond, however, seemed to be anti-antisemitism. Our experiences in WWII still have not caused some folks - including many in today's social / political / economic elite - to be cured of their antisemitism.
