Exactly. It was an euphemism for anti-Jewish way back when. It didn't have to be totally logical, it just had to sound better than 'anti-Jewish.'

And of course, one of the classic 'tells' of anti-semitism is an individual making the point the Arabs and others are Semites, as if that makes the word invalid. Talk about trying to get off on a technicality! Sorry, no matter what word you use for it, if you think the Jews are sneaky evil-doers, you are what anti-Semitic means in the usual idiom.
