That being said Adidas based their decision on their bottom line. First by endorsing "Ye" and later by kicking him to the curb. No surprise there.

There's this scene in the great documentary "Crumb" where Robert Crumb is walking down the street in San Francisco bemoaning "Why would anybody wear a hat or a shirt with advertising on it?" It appears to be one of the primary reasons Crumb and Aline moved to France in 1991.
