The GOP doesn't actually care about border security. They care about maintaining border security as a wedge issue (the House GOP killed comprehensive immigration reform introduced by Dubya in 2007 and Obama in 2013) while their donors (and Trump himself) continue to use undocumented labor. Meanwhile, while yammering constantly about border security, the GOP supported legislation that would have drastically cut CBP funding in FY 2021, 2022 and 2023.

It's been clear for a long time that the one and only, singular reason any Republican politician supports or opposes any measure involves votes. Nothing else counts, nothing else matters, and that includes the fucking welfare of the citizens they represent and certainly not the citizens anywhere else since they can't get their votes.
