American patriots, well at least the ones who feel the need to push their patriotic zealotry in your face, are inherently xenophobic too.

Understand that when I refer to "patriotism" I am not necessarily referring to "love of country". To my mind love of country is the deep abiding feeling one has for his people and his nation. Seeing the Virginia coast after a six month deployment brought tears to my eyes thinking of the friends, family and countrymen that I had sworn to defend, and knowing that I would give my life to do just that. That's love of country.

Patriotism, to my mind, is just a bunch of flagwaiving, used as a tool by politicians to convince the masses that their policies are "What's best for the Nation". If the politician "Loves America" why would he try to change it, or bring any harm to it? Yeah, sure.

"Vote for me, if you Love America and want to take our country back!"
NO! I'll vote for you if I like the content of your ideas and policies. I don't care how much you wave the flag in my face.
