Just over 60 years ago we reacted pretty aggressively - and came within a hair's breadth of a shooting war with Russia - when Russia put missiles in Cuba. The Kennedy administration believed those missed posed a direct threat, and they were absolutely right to demand their removal.
What you're advocating here is something that Putin and company would perceive as a direct threat, because NATO members are bound to come to each other's defense.
Just because Zelenskyy wants to risk starting WW III to save Ukraine doesn't mean we need to help him start WW III.
