Makes one wonder how many folks are buying high capacity semi automatic firearms based on the mis-representation in both the media and on the political floor. Think it was about thirty years back when the ten round magazine passed the local sleepy small town gun store I frequented was overrun with people grabbing every high capacity anything they could get their hands on.
Range officers have their hands full these days with outright dangerous gun handling from those who have never considered a safety course, although locally now the range requires one before being allowed on the firing line alone.
I guess my concern centers around ban enforcement if and when such legislation is passed. Just cannot see our local sheriff going door to door with a search warrant and locking up non compliant individuals. It imho is not a democrat/republican thing, it is a decline in societal values thing, and that is hard to overcome no matter what rules are passed.
In the early 60's was taught firearms safety at a very young age, probably way out of correctness today btw. The threat of at the least a severe tongue lashing or worse made quite an impression on a young mind. A national requirement to pass a firearms course before permitting to own would be a first step I certainly would support.
