I was never much of a fan of Hitchens, but sometimes he was...well...Hitchens.
I can't remember who first said this, but it's been something I have been pretty invested in for a long time. The notion that this country was founded on the worst possible combination of philosophies.
Puritanism - we're all sinners
Utopianism - everywhere else is a shithole
Individualism - even worse, rugged individualism, it's the I got mine, go fuck yourself philosophy. And the libertarians are the standard bearers.
And let's not forget the Manifest Destiny cherry on top of this philosophical sundae.
