I lived there for 3 years and still visit fairly often. Don't spend too much time in the French Quarter, particularly not Bourbon St. Way too touristy. For music, hit Frenchmen St. or some of the uptown clubs. If you like seafood, go to Deanie's (several locations, including the Quarter on Iberville St). Their seafood platter is truly a sight to behold (and eat). It comes in portions for 2 or 4. Order half as much as you think you need (get the platter for 2 for 4 people). This picture is the platter for 4. If you want some oysters on the half shell while in the Quarter, go to Acme Oyster House.
