The Oxford English Language Dictionary does too:

in·sur·rec·tion /ˌinsəˈrekSH(ə)n/

noun: insurrection; plural noun: insurrections

- A violent uprising against an authority or government.

Here are a few others who agree with this characterization:

“It was a violent insurrection for the purpose of trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power after a legitimately certified election from one administration to the next,” said McConnell, R-Ky.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Wednesday that he agrees with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's (R-Ky.) description of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol as a "violent insurrection."

Ted Cruz called it a “violent terrorist attack.” Do you prefer that?
