Sounds like they're blowing smoke, if you ask me. I'd be looking into a gen set tho for my house if I lived in the midwest. You can transfer electricity long distances but there has to be a connection. Most of Texas has their own grid disconnected from the two grids supplying the rest of the country. Some libertarian nonsense behind that decision, if I recall.

Texas simply skimped on weatherizing their equipment and the citizens are paying a heavy price, ie 50 dead so far and untold millions suffering with undrinkable water. Gotta love these Ayn Rand worshiping chuckleheads.
