You can attempt to deprogram a close friend or family member who trusts you, and you probably should. But it's a project, takes time and effort. Not accomplished by facts and argument....

I agree that persuading people won't be accomplished by argument. However, you will need, and rely on, facts. You can't get anywhere telling people that they are wrong or racists. No one will hear you after that. You should acknowledge their concerns and ask for evidence. Make it clear that you are not hardened in your position and are willing to learn and change your own mind if new information comes to light.
A lot of these people are afraid, and fear shuts down your higher brain functions. A message that things are not bad as they believe, I think will eventually resonate and be a relief, once they come to accept the evidence. But it will be a slooooooow process.
