Pursuit of profit only has given us the billionaire-driven economy where everyone gets poorer but the billionaires and their lieutenants, the CEOs. The stock market goes up and up because all the profits and excess corporate cash gets dumped into it, giving perpetual buy pressure. But money used to buy already-issued stock does little for the economy.
