Well, the constitution sort of agrees with you. Our right to *pursue* happiness is protected. But the old biblical concept should still apply. You don't work? You don't eat.
Life is hard. The government making it a "free ride" doesn't magically fix that. That's why Cabrini Green had to be demolished.
But I do think a flat end user "sales" tax would be awesome as the only form of tax. And it couldn't be more fair. The rich would pay a lot, and the poor would pay little. But we would all chip in to preserve the government that does the modern equivalent of what ancient walled cities did to preserve civilization from the hordes.
