Remember during the 2016 campaign Trump would weirdly have a song by the Rolling Stones played at the end of his speeches?
The song was "You Can't Always Get What You Want."
I was always mystified by that. I mean the song is just not a feel good campaign song at all...nothing like say the Bruce Springsteen songs used by Obama or the Fleetwood Mac song that Bill Clinton used back in the 1990s. I guess the most famous example would by Reagan's off-kilter use of Born In The USA even though he really didn't recognize the irony in the song itself. But I can understand why he mistakenly picked the song on the just the basis of the title.
Then a few days ago Trump revealed the truth of his actual philosophy and world view via a surrogate...Jared Kushner. Who came out and made the asinine assertion that the Federal Stockpile of Ventilators belonged only to the Federal government since it was indeed the Federal Stockpile of Ventilators. Circular logic designed to just add gasoline to the pandemic.
Holy shit. Trump is saying to to the various coronavirus impacted states, and ultimately to the American people, that "you can't get what you want." At a time when what we need will actually keep Americans from dying! He sees this plague as just another transaction in which he can screw over the other party that he has an obligation that is owed.
Just like when he never paid contractors who did work on his casinos, etc. Just like he never reimburses local municipalities for the overtime required for their police departments when he has his big rallies in their cities.
He doesn't care about Americans we are just transactional to him...red or blue is the way he sees us and acts accordingly. As long as Melania, Ivanka, Jared and Baron do not get sick he could care less.
When the wave hits Florida and say Mississippi he may have Jared unlock his Federal Stockpile of Ventilators...but only because of the votes.
You Can't Always Get What You Want...and God help us if Trump is the arbiter of what you need.
