Trump doesn't not need GOP to stay in power, GOP needs Trump to stay in power.
Besides his grandstanding in Singapore has has elevated his profile and status on the world stage. He is probably acting out his newfound fame.
Reality is that he cannot stop the Mueller investigation and Trump will get further out of control if Manafort and/or Cohen flip. No reason to believe that they will not since they have both been thrown under the bus.
