I think the Senate jumping into the act had something to do with it. His attorney has asked the FBI and House & Senate Intelligence committee's separately for limited immunity. Both bodies have denied this of course

and the FBI with a no response as usual.
Since the Senate announced only yesterday that they are going to take the lead, fairly recent development and wonder if Trump's threat to the freedom caucus was a deflection from this.
