Jerry Brown issues a call for courage! Rallies the members of the American Geophysical Union to keep fighting the BS typified by the OP. Here's a transcript of the end of his speech:

Quote:
It takes some boldness, some risk-taking, but most of all, truth-telling and truth-seeking. The power of truth is profoundly more effective than the power of rhetoric. Rhetoric comes, and rhetoric goes. So we have to get back to the common sense, what do we know, what's real, what's human. Not all the miasma of nonsense coming across the social media channels. You know because you work at it every day. And I promise you everything I do in the next couple of years in California, to work with you to bring common sense to the people of America, and together we're going to make sure that California, as many states as want to join, other countries, and ultimately Washington itself, will be together, as we combat climate change, now and into the future. Thank-you very much.

[long applause]
It'd just a 15-min speech. Brown sees the temporary ascendancy of deniers in DC as potentially a long-term good, leading to a reductio-ad-absurdism in policy that ultimately increases acceptance of the truth of climate change. Vows that if LANDSAT and other satellites are turned-off, "California will launch it's own damn satellite!"

Well worth a listen!
