I recognise that I'm making one of your points: that the media won't cover Bernit in anything resembling a serious manner. The reason is simplicity itself. He wants to break up the heptocracy of media ownership in the US where a handful of multinational corporations , usually tied into the MIC, control about 90% of or media.
The reason Trump gets the coverage he does is that he has entertainment value. He's a media mogul who's good fro ratings. Plus, he's one of them, a billionaire so nobody expects him to rock the boat. Look at his tax plan for the proof.
