If I am not mistaken Romney picked Ryan before the Convention in 2012. They did it in front of a Navy vessel to give them some MIC cred. I don't know if you are being sarcastic or not but I take the point if you are suggesting that I have suggested Bernie is a dead man walking.
You may be right...both Hillary and Obama are not very far off from being moderate Republicans. If that is how things have shifted then so be it. That is something beyond my control if people want to nominate people like Trump and Cruz and push moderate GOP voters and values into the Democratic Party.
To be honest, if I was Hillary right now I would pick someone like Castro NOW. She is going to be at the convention, and most likely with a majority count. If she is afraid of losing the nomination or her momentum is going down she needs to amp it up.
Better to pivot to the national now and still have to fight off Bernie than wait too long to pivot after a bloody civil war when she may be really hurt but still the nominee.

Yes, it looks like Romney did choose Ryan early, about two weeks early, after he was the presumptive nominee. If Hillary were to pick a running mate early before locking up the nomination it would blow up in her face and add to the aura of entitledness that haunts her. It would be a huge tactical blunder.
And you know what Truman said about Democrats who try to run to the right: "Given a choice between a fake Republican and a real one, the public will loose the real Republican every time."
