Either taxes are too low for the rate of US gov't spending, or spending is too high for the level of taxation that is being levied in the US. Frankly, I think both spending and taxation are pretty far out of whack, but the tax code of so effing complicated - purposefully kept that way by our elected class - that its almost impossible to keep a handle on it.
