People on either fringe are generally intolerant of those whose opinions do not match their own.
A true liberal (not in the American sense of the word). Is somebody who lets others think and feel whatever they want and live however they want as long as it does no harm to others.
In the USA liberal gets conflated with left wing. IMO "progressives" or the left is as intolerant as any teabagger out there. They just sling shit at each other and don't think past their own prejudices.
