I also read about the fascinating behavior of mobbing. This is a harassment attack made against owls by a bunch of other birds who'd rather not be eaten by one. Mobs, once they get going, are joined by various species--whoever's around. They surround and mess with the owl, but don't actually injure it. Nor does the owl fight back. He just leaves if he's had enough.
The non-violent nature of this anti-owl protest, and the reaction to it, are exemplary.

I've seen this type of display with the bigger hawk species around here.
