Actually, what they do is try to pressure their suppliers to cut corners all around......Especially labor costs.
I work for a WalMart supplier. They want the cheapest, low grade shit we make. But, they buy a lot of it. At one point they were trying to leverage significantly lower prices. ("Demand" is a better word.). Prices that we could not give them, no way, no how without huge cuts to the one thing the company has control over-----labor costs. Fortunately, the people who own our business had the stones to tell them to piss off. For one year, we survived without the bastards and never laid off a single employee. Then, they came back. It seems they couldn't get anyone with any self respect to do it either. And whoever they went to after us gave them the price they wanted, but also gave them horrible quality and service.
Guys, everything you hear about WalMart is true. They are straight up assholes. They don't care about anyone. Our managers told us in a meeting, that every vendor who deals with them will tell you that. But, people put up with it because they do buy in high volume. Unfortunately, many manufacturers go the route of outsourcing to satisfy their demands. (Which, of course, is only temporary.
Unbridled greed doesn't know when to quit. That's what makes it "evil".)
When it reaches the point where doing business with someone like that is a pain in the ass and there is no reward to it.....
