He'd have been kept in check by the Iranians. Now, Iraq (from Baghdad south, anyway) has been essentially handed over to Iran and the north belongs to ISIS commanded by de-Baathified officers. Dubya's Iraq war will go down as perhaps the greatest American foreign policy blunder in the past century (and that's saying something).
