But noting that younger people hold more liberal attitudes is not a reason to celebrate the coming extinction of prejudice. Many people get more cynical and cranky as they age. for lots of reasons, youthful optimism can become disappointment, while high principles become compromised. Persons beset with dissatisfaction and feelings of failure can look for targets for projection of their own self-loathing. Familiar stereotypes and prejudices become useful, even if one had rejected them in the past.
There's a reason that the classic 'Archie Bunker type' is a male in later middle age. A lot of the young people who answer polls one way now, will answer then another way later.
