That phrase 'imminent threat' is just a tad vague, however. How much of a threat must a person be, to be bad enough to shoot in the back? How does one gauge the matter in the field?
I mean, once we say some people can be shot it the back, we have to have criteria that an officer can reasonably apply, in deciding who to shoot and who not to. These can be somewhat loose, in recognition that we don't want to deter the officer from shooting when public safety truly demands it. But not so loose as 'if he feels like it,' I trust....
