Keep in mind that the aid to Israel is a continuation of the aid deal this country made with Israel and Egypt in the 1978 Camp David Peace Accords. Both countries were promised specific amounts of aid, including military aid, in exchange for both countries promising not to initiate any hostilities against the other. Both have kept that promise so far and Egypt continues to receive $1.5 billion per year in aid.
The Revolution of 2011 in Egypt has caused this to be much less secure however. Even though Morsi and his successor al-Sisi have stated their desire to maintain peace with Israel, the deputy chief of Egypt's largest party, the Muslim Brotherhood, said that they would not recognize Israel's right to exist, the treaty is non-binding, and they would be demanding a referendum. Finn insists that Israel has no need to fear their neighbors anymore, eh? Yeh...sure.
The hugely prevailing attitude of Muslims in the ME is that they will never recognize Israel's right to exist.
