Don't think they were thinking about the protestors at all. They were out to defuse demands for William's prosecution. And it was a good move, PR wise, except I think it should have been a different press conference with a different spokesman that dropped the video stuff into the mix. The purpose was all to obvious the way they did it, and probably has contributed to further unrest in Ferguson.
