I believe the founders cared considerably about intrusions into the private lives of Americans on any level. But I agree, they probably would have resisted intervention on the state level. Didn't work at all.
That's not the point though. The point is, with all the complaints from the right as to the left's convenient tinkering with the Constitution, the "original intent" dimwits are just as likely to tinker with the Constitution as anybody else when it suits their ideology and purpose. Case in point...the bullshit about the 2nd Amendment having anything to do with personal home defense against marauding bands of swarthy urban criminals.
