To me, this adds up to Hamas jumping into what they see as a void in leadership. And its gonna get them whacked hard if they keep it up.

True, but Bibi contributed greatly to a void in leadership. He completely overreacted to the murder of the three teenage settlers (who should not have settled anywhere remotely near the wasp nest of Hebron), arresting 300-400 people and demolishing a bunch of homes.
Some sort of fight was inevitable when Bibi announced new settlements just as Kerry first arrived there months ago to start peace talks. He deliberately poisoned the well from the get-go. Peace to him means imprisoning 4 million people.
