They did. Hitler and the Brownshits had bunches of guns, in the years before he gained power. Hitler and his militia subverted constitutional rule in Germany. He's a very bad argument for militias. Actually, I'm completely for amending the constitution here to get that militia stuff out of it. The founding fathers were human politicians, actually, and they got that one wrong. The constitution is all about rule of law, but militias challenge rule of law.
