You can post anecdotes all you like (as did I) but the facts are pretty clear. If you keep a gun in your house, it's not real likely to be used to "protect" anyone, and far more likely to shoot a member of your family. Or be stolen to arm a "bad guy".

Exactly. Or several bad guys. I have a friend, a "responsible gun owner" whose entire collection, including ammunition and the large safe it was stored in, stolen from his home. The whole damn shebang grew legs and disappeared before the cops could respond to his security alarm. Less than fifteen minutes. A hole saw, heavy duty furniture moving equipment and a truck was all it took, according to the investigator. They even left the drill laying on his porch with no fingerprints to trace.
30+ more black market weapons on the street.
