I don't think there's any question among right minded Americans that our democratized gun carnage is (y'know I was gonna say "crazy" but it's not "crazy" which implies out of one's control to a large extent, so instead I'm gonna say) despicable.

You may have seen my favorite example here already, but I'll say it again. Within six months of their single mass school shooting, the Dunblane incident in 1997, the British people through their governmental process, outlawed all handguns and most other firearms outside of long barreled non-automatic hunting rifles and shotguns. The result? The gun homicide rate in the US is now 40 times the rate in the UK.

This shooting. Well...the SCOTUS has already decided we all have the right to defend our property with lethal force. And the courts have decided that even if the incident turns out to not have been a situation that actually required lethal force, that if the shooter simply mistakenly thought it required lethal force, it's still justified.

Vice-President Thomas R. Marshall was wrong when he said: "What this country really needs is a good five-cent cigar."

What this five-cent cigar really needs is a good country.
