I got a lot of stories like that from my 67 years of living here in Dixieland.
Regrettably, during my younger years I went along with some of that shit myself in order to fit in.
Not that it's confined to the south.
My uncle hooked me up with a construction job during the summer of 68 when I was in college.
It was in North Jersey.
There was plenty of on the job banter there.
The worst insult among the construction workers where I worked was to call someone a "Porta-rican"
I can hear it like it was yesterday.
If someone wasn't working fast enough the foreman would yell "Hey, you, Puerto Rico, whatsamatter? You and your men no wanna work?"
