I can remember when using the word Negro was considered being polite.

I remember once back in the 80's this new couple moved in next door to us.
They came down from Ohio, and the dude worked at a Goodyear Tire Store.
Anyway they invited my wife and I over to get to know the new neighbors.
I guess the dude wanted to fit in with what he thought was southern culture because as an ice breaker he stated off this joke.
