No, it doesn't. It shows the quality of our medical schools and our penchant for innovation. It shows nothing about our ability to deliver world class health care in an efficient manner. In fact, it highlights the disconnect between the quality of our doctors and the deficiencies of our health care delivery system (i.e., how is it that the world's best doctors are only able to deliver the 16th best medical outcomes?) Don't conflate good doctors with an efficient health care delivery system.
On my flight to Israel in November, I sat with an MD/PhD in neuroscience from the University of Haifa in Israel who has lived in LA and worked at the UCLA medical center for the past seven years. He was very impressed with American medical technology and innovation, but aghast at our health care
system.
