I also think that Japanese society places value on the group and family more than the individual, in general. For example, one usually works for one company for life...not moving from place to place like we do. I do not think it is "all about me" like it is here, where we place much more emphasis on the individual.

I am glad I live in Cali....I do not see armed folks at Starbucks here thank goodness. I do not want it. Most of us here do not want that.
I have seen the violence decrease here since the 90s.....it is not perfect of course....but we are getting a good rep I think. Better than some other places. I like the strict gun laws here re ccw. Of course you can still purchase weapons and ammo.
