I know what I saw being destroyed at the Sacramento County evidence facility my Brother -in -law was in charge of. I almost cried at some of the stuff being melted down in front of me.
I see your point and in a pure economic break down you'd be right but I'd venture to guess there is more than just pure economics in play here. If the manufactures were to come out in support of destruction they'd be shooting themselves in the foot (pun intended). While it would seem economically sound it my be political folly......
