In the eyes of most of the rest of the world, we don't have the moral high ground to lecture about other cultures being violent, particularly when we refuse to do anything about our military adventurism and gun laws responsible for much of the mayhem.

I'm not an apologist for militant Islam, but a little perspective is in order. There are numerous Muslim nations where you infinitely safer on the streets than you are here. I'm vacationing in one this May (Turkey). I'll be going to Israel and Jordan in November and probably Morocco again next year. No worries here.

I would still be cautious an American woman disappeared in Turkey quite recently.
