They are both fans of globalism. IMO Mitt rationalizes it from a Machiavellian perspective and Obama rationalizes it from a broad view religious perspective.

I think Republican and Democrats have different takes on globalism. To a Republican, globalism means that our "exceptionalism" gives us the right, even the responsibility, to bend lesser nations to our will.
The Democratic take on globalism is far more (too?) modest, placing our interests above other nations, but with some consideration of the interests of other nations (e.g., allies, trading partners).
I'm more of a foreign policy pragmatist and a fan of
Realpolitik.
