All I remember of Ronnie Rayguns big record on foreign policy was making Grenada safe for pina colada sipping med students.  That might be my flawed lefty recollection. His grandstanding after the fact, call for Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin wall was a PR hack job IMO. Solidarity did the heavy lifting as I recall.

You're right. Solidarity snuck into East Germany agitated for and end to Soviet occupation of the East. Then, they somehow fooled Moscow into spending billions of rubles on a national defense program that they could never sustain. I'll bet they spiked the Soviet economy and talked Mikhail Gorbachev into instituting glasnost too!
