One day, while waiting my turn in the checkout lane of my local Farm Fresh I noticed the cashier, a 50-ish African American woman, was wearing a name tag that said, "P. Floyd". When my turn came, I asked her what the "P" stood for.
She said, with a smile, "Phyllis, but everybody calls me Pink, like the rock band.".
Somehow, I thought that was cool.
In the same store a few years later, they had a cashier named "Chevelle". She caught me reading the name tag and snapped, "Yeah, I'm named after a dad-durn car. Why everybody gotta stare an' make jokes? I can't help what my crazy ass daddy named me."
