Happy Decoration Day
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...morial_Day.JPG
The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May,[2] originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans — established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers.[3] By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service.[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memorial_Day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nlXmYVE_X8 |
Have a solemn and thankful Memorial Day, all.

"MARGRATEN, Netherlands — They haven’t forgotten. For 70 years, the Dutch have come to a verdant U.S. cemetery outside this small village to care for the graves of Americans killed in World War II. On Sunday, they came again, bearing Memorial Day bouquets for men and women they never knew, but whose 8,300 headstones the people of the Netherlands have adopted as their own." WaPo |
Saw it all up close and personal today as we went to visit Michael and leave him some flowers. Was hoping our rough year might be coming to an end after losing him in July and mom in October, but Denise just lost her little brother Monday and her mom today.

I'm so sorry, Marc.

Thanks. I suppose it has to end sometime soon. There are only a limited number of likely candidates left.
|
Too much too soon. Every sympathy to you and Denise.
