Obama vetoes Keystone bill

In your face Republicans!

President Barack Obama vetoed the Republicans’ Keystone XL pipeline bill Tuesday, rejecting Congress’ attempt to take the project’s fate out of his hands — and leaving the GOP on track for an override vote that will most likely fail.

Obama’s veto message was delivered within hours of the legislation arriving on his desk, the latest step in six years of pushing and pulling over a Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline that has become a symbol in the debate over jobs versus the environment. Even before Obama whipped out his veto pen, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed to hold an override vote, which the Republican leader’s office said would occur no later than March 3.

Gas prices jumped about 10 cents a gallon here today (based on the stations I drive by regularly).

Which shows you how stupid the oil companies think we are. The oil that was to be delivered through that pipeline was to be refined in Texas and shipped to China.

By the way, the pipeline may still happen. Obama's veto wasn't because he doesn't approve of the pipeline. It was because Congress was trying to encroach on executive authority in passing legislation that's in effect an international treaty. Obama could authorize the deal tomorrow.

A fracking interesting article:

"Oil producers and Wall Street analysts claim the setback in the fracking industry brought on by the collapse in oil prices will be brief and minor. Don’t believe them."

Thanks...very clear and informative.

The Saudis are here for the long haul.
Additionally reasonably priced oil reduces the thrust for alternative energy.

I for one am very glad that we are miles away from any rail lines because it is going by rail, along with a lot of the fracked oil from ND. Already derailed one lot in West VA.

I am starting to think that Obama should just give them the symbolic victory in a show of goodwill since Keystone is a red herring: 1) It does not matter and it is one pipeline of many we already have built and 2) transferring by train as we have seen can be dangerous. Maybe the idiots will feel guilty and pass something Obama wants. I know naive assumption.

Are you trying to imply that gas prices jumped 10 cents a gallon in one day because of Obama's veto?

By the way, no change here in the past few days, however prices are up about 40 cents a gallon since their low about 2 months ago.
