Freq based light show

I was surfing Kickstarter and saw this.

I hope they get rich. It's about time someone made an inexpensive freq based light controller.

Back in the early 1970s I had an idea for something that would hook up to a stereophonic input and the antenna connections to a color tv to display x/y patterns in color depending on frequency, but never followed up. Would have been a hit with stoner a'philes no doubt.

David Berning did this back-in-the-day.

I believe the light effects wear quickly. Still there might be a reasonable market
for cheap devices.

It could work well with flat panel LCD sets as accompaniment to music listening. I remember doing it monochrome X/Y on an o'scope jug with "We're only in it for the Money" many times and being able to later recognize passages on sight. Larger and in color would have been a blast.
I was going to mod a color game console to do a colored gyrating expanding/ contracting ball of Lissajous looping keyed to L/R binaural input.
Surely someone has done some computer programs to visualize sounds by pitch and frequency in repeatable shifting color and geometric patters based on programmable parameters.

I have only one question - Why?

Because it's possible, entertaining, and possibly instructive. Imagine a method to render music visible in a way that makes emotional sense to someone profoundly deaf for instance. Kinetic art on a linear time base, combined with two vibrational transducers for the fingertips of each hand.

Well that makes sense however to me it would be a distraction, in fact when I am really concentrating I close my eyes.
