It takes a lot of gall for people like Dick Cheney to utter even one critical word about President Obama's strategy to eliminate the threat of ISIL in the Middle East.

In fact, it was the unnecessary Bush/Cheney Iraq War that created the conditions that led directly to the rise of the "Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).

Former George H.W. Bush Secretary of State James Baker said as much on this week's edition of "Meet the Press." He noted that after the first President Bush had ousted Saddam Hussein from Kuwait in 1991, the U.S. had refrained from marching on Baghdad precisely to avoid kicking over the sectarian hornet's nest that was subsequently unleashed by the Bush/Cheney attack on Iraq in 2003.

But it wasn't just the War in Iraq itself that set the stage for the subsequent 12 years of renewed, high-intensity sectarian strife between Sunni's and Shiites in the Middle East. It was also what came after.

Bush's "de-Bathification program" eliminated all vestiges of Sunni power in Iraqi society and set the stage for the Sunni insurrection against American occupation and the new Shiite-led government. Bush disbanded the entire Sunni-dominated Iraqi Army and bureaucracy. He didn't change it. He didn't make it more inclusive of Shiites and Kurds. He just disbanded it. It is no accident that two of the top commanders of today's ISIL are former commanders in the Saddam-era Iraqi military.

Obama is just trying to salvage Bush and Cheney if you think about it. Cheney should just STFU.
You should not criticize someone trying to clean up your mess.

I wish someone would punch a hole in his chest and rip out that donated heart he has and give it to someone who deserves it.

Unless you want it white washed. Look even the GOP congress did not want to get involved in this. They claimed that Obama had the powers to launch war against ISIS, this after accusing him of being an imperial president.

Is ISIS an imminent threat to the security of the US? No. ISIS is a threat primarily to Saudi Arabia and Iran and it should be their game.

They would like nothing better than to sucker us into fighting another open ended guerrilla war 6,000 miles from home where they have home field advantage.

That's what these beheadings are all about, and it appears that it might work.

We should foment WW III there. A giant epic war, our MIC and EU will make out like bandits selling high tech weaponry. When it's all over, Ayatollah's and the Wahhabi's can kiss and make up.

Let's make sure that all the high tech weapons can be disabled remotely when this is all over. Finally when all the fighting is over and done with, they will both be so broke that they will have an oil war.

Mission accomplished. :D

The preferable solution is to not buy oil. Ramp up solar, wind and tidal alternatives to capacity and let 'em duke it out with scimitars.

I think we just might be doing that as gasoline has droppe below $3.00 in some areas. That is not doing my pension the world of good.

Oh brother. Obama is responsible for exactly nothing.

Which is why he'll be remembered for golf.
