Telephone Company Idea
 

This has been rolling around my head for a few days. If the laissez-faire capitalists want to give it a try then they might find out the truth. :D

I suspect that the truth is that most people are annoyed by telemarketers. Sure the capitalism purists give lip service to some nebulous benefit that telemarketers purportedly provide, but I bet that if given a choice most of them would personally use a telephone company that prohibits making or receiving telemarketing calls. Someone must know how to create such a service.

I have heard that phone companies, if allowed, do like this.

1. Allow telemarketing.
2. Offer to block telemarketing on your number, if you pay for the block.
3. Offer telemarketers the ability to overcome the block, if they pay.
4. Offer you a block that works even against the 'penetrate your block' calls, if you pay yet more.
5. GOTO 3.

That is so sick it is probably true.

How do we get in on that racket? :o

If people stopped buying from them telemarketing would stop.

That may have worked with my cell phone, actually. Don't answer unknown non-local numbers, and if i do answer a SPAM call, I save it with the ID 'SPAM' so i won't do it again. Don't get so many now.

On the other hand, it hasn't worked with spam email....
