That progress has been made over the last several years, in bringing down deficits in the short term, but that a combination of demographics, the structure of entitlement programs, and historic trends in health-care costs, we can see that over the long-term deficits will rise to unsustainable levels relative to the economy."

So, the Dems who have fought tooth and nail any effort to reduce the growth of Gov't spending, who have taken the "historic trends in health-care costs" and placed those directly on the backs of taxpayers via PPACA, who gave us the Stimulus - or should I say Stimuli - have contributed mightily to....umm....what's the vernacular term? ...driven the economy deeper into the ditch....then covered the car in the ditch with gasoline and lit the car on fire....then pissed on the car while its burning.

Ya but look at all the economic growth, well growth in debt anyway.

If only that were true, but it's not.

What we need to get out of this mess is a massive dose of government spending, at all levels of government.

there is nothing that will reverse the momentem at wich our economy is out of control,from every microchasm of the Government all the to wall street and into the private banking sector.America Has become a big shiny POS,waiting to be divied up to Whomever,Me I hope it is China .then at least they can handle the unruly armed factions as they should be handled.

We need to put our house in order, but Bush has reduced taxes on the rich to
such an extent that any such exercise now will burden excessively the middle and working class.

Massive increase in government spending will only exacerbate waste.

It is a quandary! A lack of collective will and good sense.

The rich can afford to pay more taxes and government needs to reduce
spending.

The question is where to reduce, the MIC would be my first choice and spend the 'peace dividend' on infrastructure. Call me old fashioned.
